Sixth grader Stephanie Maldonado, from a disadvantaged neighborhood in Long Beach, California, dedicates a summer to explore the world of hard-working migrant farm-harvesting families in the Eastern Coachella Valley. Along with others, she offers visual awareness of plights greater than her own through a short documentary, “The Purepecha: Poorest of the Poor,” which is being invited to screen and feature panel presentations hosted by Tamara Damante (KESQ-CH.3), most recently for the Coachella Valley Latino International Film Festival, HollyShorts International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Short Film Festival, and for AFTRA during Hispanic Heritage Month.
